Dr. George Potamias is a Principal Researcher at FORTH’s Institute of Computer Science. For a number of years he was also an adjunct professor at the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Crete, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Dr. Potamias earned his PhD from the University of Patras, in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge‐based systems. He has been working in the field of knowledge‐based systems, machine learning and data‐mining for over 15 years, with a number of publications to his credit and active involvement in international projects: GAMES‐I & II, STAR and InterCare Health Telematics projects; MLT, FAPSY, KESO, and IRAIA ESPRIT/IST machine‐learning/data‐mining projects. In the last eleven years his R&D interests and activities focus on the interdisciplinary area of Biomedical Informatics and has contributed to several R&D projects including, but not limited to, INFOBIOMED (IST NoE), ACGT (Advancing Clinico‐Genomic Trials on cancer; www.eu‐acgt.org), LOCCANDIA (Lab On–Chip based protein profiling for CANcer DIAgnosis; www.loccandia.eu), ACTION-Grid (Specific International Cooperation Project on healthcare information systems based on Grid capabilities and Biomedical Informatics and Nanoinformatics; www.action‐grid.eu). p-medicine: From data sharing and integration via VPH models to personalized medicine, ENCCA: European Network for Cancer Research in Children and Adlescents, eMoDiA: electronic Molecular Diagnostics Assistant. He has published more than 80 papers in international journals and conferences.
