Position: Head of Muscle Cell Biology Lab
Area of work: Biobanks
Marina Mora has worked in muscle pathology since she was a student and has been involved in neuromuscular diseases ever since. At first she trained in muscle histopathology. During her postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA, she was involved in research on neuromuscular junction defects. When returning to Italy, she set up immunochemical and molecular tests for the diagnosis of muscle diseases, and has been involved in the molecular characterization of defects responsible for muscular dystrophies and in research studies concerned with the underlying pathogenetic mechanisms.
Since the late eighties she has also been concerned with organization at the Division of Neuromuscular Diseases of the Besta Institute, of a neuromuscular biobank, which has been founding member of the EuroBioBank network and of the Telethon Italian Network of Genetic Biobanks.
