The University of Aveiro (UAVR) is one of Portugal’s 14 public universities. Founded in 1973, has grown into a successful, dynamic and competitive institution. Committed from the start to innovation, quality and the attainment of national and international recognition in the pillars of Education, Research and Cooperation with Society, UAVR has built a profile based on sciences and technology and on pioneering areas.
Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA) is a research institute of UAVR that conducts multidisciplinary research in biomedical informatics. IEETA was the coordinator of TEAM-HOS (IST-11567) and INFOGENMED (IST-2001-39013) projects, and member of projects like INFOBIOMED, EU-ADR, GEN2PHEN and HOMECARE. IEETA also leads several Research & Development projects and technology transfer projects funded by the Portuguese Agency of Research. IEETA researchers own expertise in areas that are relevant to this project, such as: information retrieval, information extraction, data mining, biomedical data integration, visualization, distributed applications, web systems and bioinformatics tools.
Within RD-Connect, UAVR uses its expertise in bioinformatic tools to develop the Integrative –Omics Analysis Suite, which will be based on distributed web services and on semantic web technologies.
