The Department of Human Genetic at KU Leuven s aims to conduct excellent research, to offer an up-to-date educational curriculum, and to diagnose, counsel and eventually treat patients, all within the areas of human genetics, neurogenetics and cancer genetics. We aim to be an international centre of excellence, and to offer platforms of technologies that can support clinical and basic research groups locally, nationally as well as internationally.
We use genetic, molecular and bioinformatics technologies to improve our understanding of human disorders, for the benefit of our patients and society as a whole.
We put our clinical services and scientific knowhow at the disposal of our patients, by offering state of the art diagnostic and counselling facilities, and by offering potential prevention and/or treatment strategies. Within the field of human genetics, we reflect on the social, ethical, and psychological impact of new scientific technologies and their potential clinical applications.
