Role in RD-Connect:
The partners from the Charles University are involved in interaction and dissemination of the RD-Connect outputs in the EU priority areas (Eastern Europe, Mediterranean), i.e. by workshops, newsletters and targeted presentations at conferences. The members of this Department are also involved in the work on patient registries by their involvement in European Cystic Fibrosis registry.
Department of Biology and Medical Genetics (Ústav biologie a lékařské genetiky, UBLG), established in 1961, is an academic and non-profit medical-genetics unit of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University Prague, serving as the Charles University Medical Centre by hosting its two medical schools. It is a comprehensive medical / molecular genetics unit which serves as a tertiary centre for entire Czech Republic. It is also serving as the National Coordination Centre for Rare Diseases and is a clearing centre for dissemination of outcomes of EU project in the field of genomics of rare diseases to other Central and Eastern European countries.
The UBLG activities focus on National Cystic Fibrosis Centre, Oncogenetics, Reproductive genetics, Constitutional cytogenetics, Biology and Clinical genetics / Genetic counselling. The department offers comprehensive prenatal and postnatal genetic services, both at cytogenetic and molecular genetic levels, including examination of hereditary tumors, complemented by specialized, genetic counseling. It also serves as the pre-graduate training centre for the 2nd Faculty of Medicine and post-graduate training of medical geneticists and genetic laboratory specialists and has broad domestic and international contacts / collaboration and focused domestic and international research projects.
